About Us

The Water Institute of Southern Africa (WISA) hosts a biennial conference and exhibition and WISA 2018 will take place at the CTICC, Cape Town, from 24 to 27 June 2018.

The theme that we have chosen is “Breaking Boundaries – Connecting Ideas” and detailed information regarding the theme can be found at (insert link to Call for Abstracts page).


The 2018 Conference Logo has been designed to represent the following:

The use of spherical globes and the choice of colours is a play on the Ishihara test and echoes how we need to be both more aware and cognisant of the need for water going forward.

Without water, there is no life, and without awareness, there can be no progress.

The test was the first of its kind to identify colour blindness, and so the logo references the need for identification in how to best utilise and conserve our most precious resource.

3-Fold Imagery:

The use of yellow in the logo alludes to the fact that WISA ultimately came to fruition because of the discovery of gold in Langlaagtein 1886. Based as an echo on the right-hand side the colour alludes to the creation and establishment of the Water Institute of Southern Africa.

Green, the colour of life, renewal, nature, and energy, is associated with meanings of growth, and progress, referencing the fact that with foresight, we can create better allowance and access for all.

The use of the colour blue highlights the fact that sky, sea and rain are seen by us all, and so water should be available to us all, and the access to water is essentially the access freedom to live and be.
